PERSONAL PROJECT

The objective of this practicing project is to effectively explain a complex abstract concept by utilizing visual, temporal, and aural channels.

As a six-week independent project for communication design, we initiated this project by selecting a technology term. Imagining our audience as laymen, we spend the first several weeks on constantly rewriting and refining scripts to ensure they were easy to understand even for beginners. During the second half, we have focused on visualizing the story by producing a piece of instruction animation.

To introduce the notion of Encryption, I designed key visual actors including message sender, message receiver, electronic devices, plain text, encrypted text, locker, ghosts (Hacker). And then I crafted a storyline to inform the importance of Encryption, how it originated, how it works and the possible future. Besides using visual and aural elements to convey complementary information, I used tempo to ensure storytelling is well constructed and attractive to the audience.
